Create an artist

Create an artist, link their Spotify and Apple Music profiles, and buy more artist slots.

An artist is the name that appears on your release in stores. Create one for every name you release under, including aliases. Each artist uses 1 artist slot.

Before you start

You need a free artist slot. ARTIST SLOTS at the top of Artists & Labels shows how many you’ve used. The Free and Artist plans include 1, Artist Pro includes 2, and Label includes 10. If you need more, see “Buy more artist slots.”

Create an artist

  1. In the menu on the left, select Artists & Labels.

  2. On the Artists tab, select New artist.

  3. Type the artist’s name. After a couple of characters, we search Spotify and Apple Music and show up to 3 matches for each. Use the View link to check a profile.

  4. For each store, choose one:

    • Select a match from the list.

    • Select Create new profile. A profile is created when your first release goes live.

    • Select Paste a link instead, then paste the link to the artist’s profile, not to a track or release. Spotify artist links start with https://open.spotify.com/artist/. Apple Music links start with https://music.apple.com/.

  5. Select Create artist.

If you choose a Spotify profile with a different name from the one you typed, we use the Spotify name.

New artist window with Spotify and Apple Music matches and the Create new profile and Paste a link instead options.

Add an artist to a release

  1. On Step 1 (Release info), under Artists on this release, select Add an artist.

  2. In Attach artists, select Attach next to an artist. If the artist isn’t on your roster yet, select Create New Artist.

  3. Select Done.

To change the order, drag the rows on the release.

Buy more artist slots

Each extra artist slot costs $1.99, paid once. When every slot is used, New artist disappears and only Buy slots shows.

  1. Select Artists & Labels, then Buy slots.

  2. Enter how many slots you want, then select Purchase. You can buy up to 200 at once.

  3. Pay by card at checkout.

We add the slots right away, and your plan doesn’t change. If you leave checkout without paying, we don’t charge you. If you don’t see Buy slots, ask your team owner.

If you get stuck

  • “You already have an artist profile with this name.” - That name is already on your roster. Look for it on the Artists tab and use that artist, or change the name.

  • Can I delete an artist? No. There’s no delete option in the app, so you can’t free up a slot that way. Contact support and we’ll talk you through your options.
